Hi! I’m Erin. If you’re reading this, you’ve found my blog, Lemon Sugar. Welcome!
There are a few things you should probably know about me before you dive in. OBVIOUSLY, I love to make, photograph and write about food, and the sole purpose of my little space on the internet here is to share my adventures in the kitchen with you. But that’s no mystery, that’s what a food blog does, right?
I am a home cook. I bake for my family, my friends, and occasionally someone out there will pay me to make desserts for parties or their wedding (which I consider a supreme honor, so thank you for that!), but I have no formal training. I am self-taught, driven by a passion for delicious perfection and making people happy in that slow-blink-drop-the-yum-bomb kind of way. (You know, the face the folks on The Food Network make when they taste their own food?)
Beyond that, I do have a day-job in the TV business – and I love it. I work in media marketing, and it’s such a fun way to spend my 40 hours a week away from my other life – my family, friends, and this blog. It’s also an awesome complement to some of the behind-the-scenes work I put into Lemon Sugar.
My most important job though is being a Momma to my two little girls, Madeline & Mia. They are sassy, stubborn, beautiful little nuggets and I can’t get enough of them, even when they are driving me nuts. What an honor it is to be their Mom.
I am married to my junior-high school sweetheart. I won’t sap you out with all of the wonderful things I have to say about him, but he is my biggest fan and he loves my baking, so I think I’ll keep him around.
I live just outside of Kansas City and am proud to know how to herd cows, raise chickens and keep bees. I’m definitely a country-girl at heart, but do love that KC isn’t far away and can keep my Starbucks, Target & Anthropologie obsessions in check.
My style in the kitchen is simple – I love approachable, delicious food. There are some intimidating recipes out there, but I’ve found that if you take them step-by-step and have the right equipment, nothing is impossible. If I can do it, you can certainly do it!
My favorite recipes on the blog pretty much change daily, but some of the stand-outs are my soft pretzels (that honey mustard dip is amaaaaazing), the mint chocolate chip cake, and the spiced white wine bundt cake. Ask me tomorrow, and I’ll give you a completely different answer…
My most popular recipes? Biscuits & Gravy Casserole. Orange Sweet Rolls. One Hour Maple Pecan Cinnamon Rolls. Cannoli Poke Cake. All fine choices!
If you want a quick video snapshot into my world, check out this feature on my local news station. It was a lot of fun, hope you enjoy it:
