Fresh Squeezed Lemonade

Fresh Squeezed Lemonade

So, this isn’t really a food recipe, but it’s super hot outside, and I had four pounds of lemons in a pretty bowl on my kitchen counter. (Am I the only one who decorates with lemons? They’re my favorite centerpiece and kitchen decor item.) And, since I recently discovered my Grandma’s old juicer I figured a big pitcher of fresh-squeezed lemonade was in order. It REALLY hit the spot after a few hours of working in our gardens.

I’m a lemon-person anyway (obviously, hence the name of my website); my favorite drink of all time is the lemon-drop martini, I love lemon-meringue pie, and always put lots of lemon in my iced tea – so lemonade is right up my alley. But this lemonade – it’s on a whole different level. It’s tart but not enough to give you the pucker-face, and sweet but not sickeningly-so…it’s the perfect drink to cool you down, serve at a party or just have hanging around in your refrigerator.

The best part about this is that my girls absolutely loved it. My 5-year old helped me squeeze the lemon juice and she took a lot of pride in the fact that she helped make it. My nearly 2-year old drank every last drop of her ‘nemondade’ and asked for more…

Play with this recipe until you get it to your liking – if you like tart lemonade start with the basic ratio of 1 cup of lemon juice, 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water. Add ingredients as you see fit. Garnish with a slice of lemon and serve over ice in a pretty glass (because pretty glasses make everything taste better)…and enjoy!
