Homemade Caramel Sauce
I had one of those days in the kitchen. One recipe was a complete flop, and one of the layers of a cake I was making fell apart as I was taking it out of the pan. Another recipe tasted good, but it didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to (appearance-wise), so I’m going to have to make it again before I can share it with everyone. So. Frustrating. Things like this always happen when I’m rushing, though so I guess I’m not…

A Fairy Party
Ready for a photo-heavy post? ‘Cause that’s what you’re gonna get. It’s Fairy Party time! Last weekend, my daughter Mia turned six years old. For those of you who have been Lemon Sugar readers for a while, you know that my daughter and my niece were born just 17 hours apart, so my sister and I always combine their family party. I look forward to planning this party every year, and we’ve had some fun themes in years past. This year we went with a fairy-inspired…

Cinnamon Roll Scones
These cinnamon “rolls” take 40 minutes from start to finish, including baking time. They don’t have to rise, and they don’t use yeast so they’re more like a cinnamon scone – they have a crumbly texture instead of a smooth bread texture. Nonetheless, when you’re craving cinnamon rolls but don’t have 4 hours to whip some up, these definitely will fit the bill. These are best eaten warm, but a quick zap in the microwave for 2 days after they’re made brings them right back…

Spicy Chicken Hoagie
I am a huge sandwich fan – a HUGE sandwich fan. So much so that I could totally relate to Joey and his sandwich obsession on “Friends.” Speaking of Friends, do you remember the episode where Ross freaked out because someone ate his sandwich? The Moistmaker?? I do. And come Thanksgiving, there will totally be a Moistmaker recipe on this blog. You think I’m joking…I’m not. So yes, I love sandwiches. I think it’s probably just that I love bread, and you can’t really have a…

Honey & Vanilla Bean Cupcakes
Whoa. Hello there, ginormous picture! I’m trying something a bit different. I had this thought occur to me a few days ago that maybe my photos were too small for the design of my blog. And then, I became a bit obsessive about it, and couldn’t stop thinking about it. So I made them bigger. Quite a lot bigger, actually. And now they look enormous and I don’t know if I like it. So, I’m going to live with it for a few days and…

Mini Pumpkin Loaves
I definitely love a good pumpkin recipe – and not just in the fall. I could eat them year-round. I’m not a huge PSL fan – so I usually indulge in one Pumpkin Spice Latte a year – but they are just a bit sweet for me. But, a grande drip with a slice of pumpkin bread? Sign. Me. Up. The great thing about this recipe is that it is SUPER EASY. I’ve updated the method a little bit to combine wet and dry ingredients,…

Homemade Ricotta Cheese
My youngest brother is getting married in the spring. In preparation for the Groom’s family duties, my Mom, sisters and I are beginning the process of scoping out locations for their rehearsal dinner. Last night, while pouring over menus, venues and prices, I came across my favorite Italian restaurant, Lidia’s. I love that place. Everything is made from scratch with fresh ingredients – from their bread to their pasta to their marinara and ricotta cheese…and that’s exactly the reason their food tastes so much better.…

Applesauce Doughnut Holes
Hi everyone! On Thursdays, I will be sharing some of my favorites from the archives from Lemon Sugar. These Applesauce Doughnut Holes have remained very popular since I first posted them years ago. They just scream autumn! Enjoy! ♥ Ok, I promise I’ll get off the fall-flavor train soon. Yeah, not really. I can’t promise that at all. I know there are some of you out there who aren’t into pumpkin, apple and cinnamon EVERYTHING, but I can’t help myself. I am very into pumpkin, apple…

Sweet Dinner Rolls & A Giveaway!
*note: this giveaway is now closed. Over the last several months, we’ve drastically reduced the amount of bread that we buy at the grocery store. Now that I’ve become comfortable making yeast breads, there just isn’t a reason to buy it anymore. Working with yeast used to intimidate me. I have very vivid memories of my Grandma making rolls for Sunday dinner – not only was her dough the smoothest, most supple* bread dough I’ve ever seen, but the rolls themselves were fantastically amazing. And…

Cinnamon Roll Cake
My oldest daughter is getting ready to start first grade. I am in denial. In my eyes, she’s still my sweet little girl who loves her fluffy stuffed sheep and wants me to read “Pat the Bunny” over and over again. She’s still the little girl with curly blonde pigtails, big blue eyes and ruffles on her rompers. So, you can imagine my surprise when I took her clothes shopping today and she told me that the shoes she wants, Sketchers Twinkle Toes, are “so,…

Cookie Dough Brownies
Right now, I’m sitting in the lobby of my daughter’s gymnastics studio, waiting for her to finish up. In my flurry to get her fed, dressed and out the door after school, I didn’t have time to eat dinner myself. On top of that, I’m writing a blog post about cookie dough brownies. This is pure torture. I’m really wishing I would have packed myself a little brownie goodie bag. I feel like I’ve been making a lot of cakes (and cupcakes) lately,…
