• Anniversary Party

This past weekend, my siblings and I were honored to host a party celebrating our parent’s 40 years of marriage.  We invited friends, family, co-workers, old neighbors – you name it.  Even though it was a holiday weekend, we were happy to host over 80 people. Today’s blog post isn’t about food – although the food was pretty tasty – and it’s not about dessert – even though I made 12 dozen cupcakes.  Today’s post is about family and friends and a lifetime built on…

  • Tiramisu Macarons

While I was making these the other day, my Mom called me, and asked what I was doing.  I told her I was making Macarons, and she said “Macaroons?”  No…MacaRONS.  Different.  Then, I tried to explain to her what they were – kind of like a meringue sandwich cookie, though with an almond-flour base…but I’m still not sure if she knew what I was talking about. So, here you go Mom.  MacaRONS.  (Mack-uh-RONs).  I’m very confident that I didn’t do a good job explaining them…

  • Cherry Sweet Rolls

Ok, let me break this down for you. One-hour sweet roll dough. Sweet cherry filling.  Easy-peasy powdered sugar glaze.  Start to finish, cherry sweet rolls, in about an hour.  Boom. This is what Sunday afternoons are made for. Know why?  Because tomorrow I get to have a cherry sweet roll with my morning coffee.  It’s funny because every single time I make this recipe, I think, “Why in the world did I not halve the recipe?  Why do I need 30 sweet rolls?” Let me…

  • Nutella Crescent Cookies

Hold the freaking phone. Nutella?  Crescent rolls?  Easy-peasy cookies in no-time? I’m so in. I’m not sure if you remember my post from last week, the Easy Cherry Turnovers?  I told you that I stockpiled crescent rolls at the grocery store over the holiday to fulfill all of my Pinterest Crescent Roll obsessions.  Seven recipes later, I finally used my last can of crescent rolls tonight.  I have this whole processed-food guilt thing happening,  but after tasting these I’m kind of OK with that.

  • Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Spice Bars

This is my version of a rain dance.  I’m going to make a whole bunch of warm, spicy, fall-flavored treats until Mother Nature gets the hint; pumpkin breads, banana breads, soups, stews, casseroles – you name it.  I’m breaking out my scarves, my afghans, and my fuzzy socks, and I’m planting Mums and decorating with gourds.  If summer wants to hang on for a couple of months, so be it – but at our house, fall is here. I’m pretty sure that won’t work, but…

  • Dipped Vanilla Sprinkle Cupcakes

When my husband and I finished college, we moved to the suburbs and built our first house together.  We both grew up in a small town, out in the country, and I think we were ready to give “city living” a try.  We built a great first house not far from the police station where my husband works and relatively close to my job.  Then, my first daughter was born.  She wasn’t even six months old when we realized that we wanted her to have…

  • Peach Pie with Buttermilk Crust

I’ve eaten approximately 167 peaches this week.  That’s because when I go shopping for produce, and I see big, fleshy, perfectly ripe, juicy peaches, I feel the need to buy three of four bags of them.  I can’t say no.  I’ve really tried.  But then, as I’m walking away, this little voice inside my head reminds me that peaches are not a year-round thing.  If I don’t eat them now, if I don’t stuff myself full of them, then it’s going to be a long,…

  • Strawberries & Cream Cake

This cake makes me think spring thoughts.  Warm, breezy, budding-tree, blooming flower, happy spring thoughts.  And even though we are still a couple of weeks away from St. Patrick’s Day (and post-season college basketball – the official start of springtime for me), I’m ready.  I’m over winter, I’m over cold weather, and I’m over cooped-up kids.  So, Strawberries & Cream Cake?  Do. Your. Thang. I don’t mean to complain – I do appreciate the changing seasons – but dude.  I’m done with it.  I’m craving…

  • Spinach & Gruyere Quiche

Every time I think of quiche, I am reminded of weekend shopping trips with my mom and sisters.  We’d leave early on a Saturday morning and head to the mall or shopping centers so we could be there when they’d open, and we’d shop until after lunchtime.  I can’t even imagine how much money we spent, but we hit every store in the shopping center, sometimes twice, until we were done.  After our marathon trip, we’d head out to eat a late lunch at the…

  • 2015 Roundup

It’s been a great year here at Lemon Sugar.  Lots of new recipes, lots of new opportunities, the c-word (cookbook!) is floating around, and even though I had a busy year outside the blog, I still managed to keep it a priority and watch it grow. I can’t thank you all enough for your support, your comments, your likes, your pins, your tweets, your shares.  I know that you, as readers, have EVERYTHING to do with how successful I am here, and really – a…

  • Applesauce Doughnut Holes

Ok, I promise I’ll get off the fall-flavor train soon. Yeah, not really.  I can’t promise that at all.  I know there are some of you out there who aren’t into pumpkin, apple and cinnamon EVERYTHING, but I can’t help myself.  I am very into pumpkin, apple and cinnamon everything. I’ll try to mix it up a bit.  However,  you should know that I still have 14 cans of pumpkin puree in my pantry, so I’m probably not going to keep my word on this…
