I Love You Brownies
Brownies have to be one of my all-time favorite deserts. I mean, for one thing, they’re chocolate. They’re sweet, soft, and are just begging for a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a tall glass of cold milk. There’s just not much better than that. Unless you’re one of those people who don’t like chocolate. If that’s the case, I can’t imagine how you landed on my little blog – but anyway, have you had your head checked lately? You don’t like chocolate? Are…

Nutella Cupcakes
I’ve had one of those weeks. Well, actually, I’ve had one of those months. You know, when you can’t get ahead, everything is a crazy mess, your to-do list is twice as long as usual, your kids are sick and on fall break, AND your husband has to travel for work? Yes, I’ve had that kind of month. I haven’t had a lot of time for baking this month, I haven’t really even had much time to go to the grocery store. As a result,…

Cannoli Poke Cake
There is a darling little restaurant in Kansas City called Cupini’s that I just adore – it’s cute, authentic, family-owned and operated and has some of the best pasta in the city. The pasta is all homemade and totally delicious, but I think my favorite part of visiting the restaurant is the FABULOUS dessert case. It’s full of beautiful pastries, cakes, tiramisu, creme brulee – you name it. And the cannoli – oh, the cannoli. The shell is delicate and crispy, and the filling is…

Out and About: Boulevard Brewery
As part of a new series here on Lemon Sugar, I’ve been spending some time exploring some of my favorite places so I can share them with all of you. By now, most of you know that I live in the Kansas City area, so hopefully these segments will help you learn a bit more about the city I love! Recently, my husband and I participated in the public tour of the Boulevard Brewing Company. This free tour is offered every day of the week,…

Mint Chocolate Chip Cake
When I was growing up, our small town had an AMAZING little restaurant called the Old Ice Cream Shoppe. It was in an old house that had been remodeled into a small-ish restaurant, with little wire tables and chairs, cute local decor on the walls and counter where you’d place your order for food or ice cream. It was located just about two blocks from the elementary school, and stayed open late during the summers which made it the perfect spot for a treat after…

Strawberry Fudge Cupcakes
Happy Valentines Day! This is just a quick update to post one of the goodies I sent with my husband to work today. I made the Fauxstess Cupcakes again, and some Red Velvet Whoopee Pies (which I’ll post next time I make them, I didn’t get any pictures) but these were a creation of mine that I felt deserving of a blog post. So, here we go! These are a fudgy chocolate cake, filled with a silky strawberry filling and topped with a basic cream…

Meyer Lemon Sour Cream Pound Cake
I’m back! I didn’t really go anywhere, but life just got busy. I am definitely a creature of habit and need my routine to keep me in check – so four snow days, a bridal shower, a gymnastics meet, a sick kiddo (who is scheduled for tubes in her ears on Friday – insert Momma-panic attack here) – and a stressful few weeks at work really have me out-of-sorts. Normally, I bake when things get stressful, but dang-it, I just haven’t had time! I think…

No-Crack Cheesecake
Best cheesecake ever. It doesn’t crack. It’s crumbly but not dry. It has a THICK, buttery graham cracker crust. It’s the best. The end. Seriously. So. good. I don’t have a lot of words about this. I’ve made cheesecake a number of times, but I’ve never shared my go-to recipe with you all, which frankly seems like a crime against humanity. Or against lemon-sugarers, at least.

Butternut Squash & Potato Gratin
I am a Thanksgiving traditionalist. I want the same dishes on my Thanksgiving table, year after year. And for me, it’s not even about the turkey – it’s about the sides. Mashed potatoes, gravy, homemade noodles, dressing (not stuffing), homemade rolls, sweet potatoes, real cranberries, my Grandma’s salad, green bean casserole and, if we have time, scalloped corn. I know there are tons of fabulous recipes out there and amazing Thanksgiving dishes that would make a great addition to my table, but dang it, our…

Castello Moments: A Roundup of Recipes
Last week I shared a recipe with you, for Cheesy Potato Gratin, made with Castello’s Hirten Cheese. Many of my fellow bloggers also participated in this recipe development program, which was sponsored by Honest Cooking Magazine and Castello Cheese. After browsing their submissions, I wanted to be sure to share them all with you as well, because these seriously talented cooks came up with some fabulous recipes. Take a few minutes and check them out. Hope you find yourself as inspired as I did –…

Perfect Sweet Tea
Today was a good day. I was kind of expecting a quiet, boring day because it’s cold and dreary outside and I had tons of work to do. But as the day went along, it just kept getting better and better. A message out of the blue from an old friend. A super-cuddly three-year-old. Maddie brought home a kindness award from school. A late dinner with my family, at the table, talking about our day. Easy bedtimes. A clean house. A cute…

Pumpkin BTS Cake
Note: This is a throw-back post, but so popular that everyone needs to see it again. Enjoy! So, I don’t really care what you call this cake. Anytime you combine pumpkin, homemade whipped cream and caramel sauce? Uh-MAZE-ZA-ZING. My last BTS cake has driven almost 1,200,000 visitors to Lemon Sugar, and is among one of my most requested desserts in my inner circle. Inner circle? That means my family. I don’t know why I called them my inner circle. I’m clearly not Miley Cyrus. I…
