• Apple Frangipane Tart

I’m so fancy. Ok, not really.  Not at all, actually.  But if I was, this is tart that would prove it. Guys, this tart is amazing.  Apples, almond filling, shortbread crust.  So, so good.  The apples are juicy and sweet, the frangipane apple custard is firm and creamy, and the crust is thick and soft.  I’m not sure how it gets any better. Frangipane is a baked almond cream.  It’s much like a custard – maybe a bit more firm, but it has that lovely…

  • Throwback Thursday: One Hour Maple Pecan Cinnamon Rolls

Hi everyone!  On Thursdays, I will be sharing some of my favorites from the archives of Lemon Sugar.  These are still my very favorite cinnamon rolls, ever and are one of my most-pinned recipes!  Wouldn’t these be great on a lazy daylight-saving morning? Enjoy! ♥ This is officially the third time I’ve used my One Hour Cinnamon Roll Dough on the blog.  There was the original, the Cherry Sweet Rolls, and now these. I think these win. These are Maple Pecan Cinnamon Rolls, and they’re fabulous. Oh…

  • S’mores Cheesecake

Oh, heeyyy! It’s been a few days, no?  Don’t worry, pretties.  I’ve been a-ok.  Me and my s’mores cheesecake – we’ve been juuuuust fine.  Oh, and also – let’s address this right up front – did you know that my husband isn’t a “big cheesecake fan?” Like, WHAT? He just CASUALLY mentioned that to me in passing tonight.  How is that even possible?  Cheesecake is pretty much what life is about, right?  Buttery graham cracker crust, thick and creamy filling?  How can he not L-O-V-E…

  • Meatball Subs & Potato Chips

It wasn’t long ago that I told you about my love for sandwiches.  Sometimes, I just get a craving and nothing will satisfy it until I just go out and get the real thing – and yesterday I almost caved.  I wanted nothing more than to jump in the car and go find the closest meatball sub sandwich I could.  But, since I found myself with a little bit of free time I decided instead to whip up some dinner – although I hadn’t made my weekly trip…

  • Cookie Dough Brownies

Right now, I’m sitting in the lobby of my daughter’s gymnastics studio, waiting for her to finish up.  In my flurry to get her fed, dressed and out the door after school, I didn’t have time to eat dinner myself.  On top of that, I’m writing a blog post about cookie dough brownies.  This is pure torture.   I’m really wishing I would have packed myself a little brownie goodie bag.   I feel like I’ve been making a lot of cakes (and cupcakes) lately,…

  • Dark Chocolate Dipped Energy Bites

It happens occasionally, that I’m going about my day, maybe enjoying a little energy bite out of my refrigerator when I’m like,  WAIT!  Why haven’t I shared these with you guys yet? I guess I get tunnel vision sometimes, always dreaming up the latest and greatest dessert idea that I guess I just overlook my everyday favorites. This is totally an everyday favorite. I’ve been making these energy bites for a couple of years now.  I’ve adapted the original recipe just a teensy-bit, but recently decided…

  • Chocolate Chip Love Muffins

I’m one of those people who thinks Valentine’s Day is silly.  Sure, I can appreciate a day that’s dedicated to making the loves in your life feel special and adored.  But to me it conjures up images of people waiting in line to buy overpriced flowers, cards and chocolates with only half-hearted intent.  I’ve always told my husband that flowers on a random Tuesday in August, or a card for no reason will always be more appreciated than forcing it on Valentine’s Day.  Perhaps that…

  • Giant Chocolate Muffins

Can you justify eating a cupcake for breakfast? I can. It’s easy, really.  You just call it a muffin.  I mean, it doesn’t have frosting, so clearly it isn’t a dessert – and everyone knows that muffins are perfectly acceptable breakfast fare.

  • Chocolate Gingerbread Cupcakes with Brown Sugar Buttercream

Oh, heyyyy.  Remember me?  That chick who used to post new recipes three or four times a week?  Yeah, I miss her, too. My days of impromptu, mid-day baking might be over, but with a little bit of planning I’ve been able to work around it and I think I have a workable baking schedule.  This means our weekends are going to be excessively dessert-laden, but it’s all in the name of Lemon Sugar, right? So, these cupcakes have been on my baking list the…

  • The Greatest Waffle Recipe Ever

I’m kind of not kidding.  Although I didn’t name these waffles, they are honestly the best I’ve ever had.  Not that I’m a big waffle aficionado or anything, but I spent a lot of time looking for the perfect waffle recipe after we got married.  We received a really nice waffle iron as a gift, and I was determined to find a really nice recipe to go with it.

  • Welcome to my blog!

Since I love to cook, bake and try new recipes, I thought it would be a good idea to put my adventures down in writing – mostly as a reference for myself but also just in the off-chance that someone out there wants to follow along.  Enjoy!

  • Chocolate Layer Cake

This is a variation of the very first layer cake I ever made.  I got the itch to make it yesterday, after doing a little bit of maintenance on my site.  I’m in the process of updating all of the recipes on all of Lemon Sugar to make them printable and more functional for everyone, and oh holy cow – I came across some cringe-worthy photos and blog posts from my early days. Case in point:  This cake. I’m totally blushing right now.  I’m so…
