• Healthy(er) Chocolate Oatmeal No-Bake Bars

My girls have been begging me for no-bake cookies for a couple of months.  Since we always have a million other desserts on the agenda, I just haven’t gotten around to it. But then, I saw this “heathier” version floating around Pinterest and I was intrigued.  I’ve always thought no-bake cookies were just kind of too-sweet and too-messy to get excited about, but the girls love them.   And I have to admit, I really like this version too.  Especially right out of the freezer. Now,…

  • Apple Frangipane Tart

I’m so fancy. Ok, not really.  Not at all, actually.  But if I was, this is tart that would prove it. Guys, this tart is amazing.  Apples, almond filling, shortbread crust.  So, so good.  The apples are juicy and sweet, the frangipane apple custard is firm and creamy, and the crust is thick and soft.  I’m not sure how it gets any better. Frangipane is a baked almond cream.  It’s much like a custard – maybe a bit more firm, but it has that lovely…

  • Chocolate Chip Graham Cracker Bars

You can actually SEE how delicious these are.  You can see the powdery sugar stuck to the gooey, chocolaty graham cracker cookie.  You can SEE it, can’t you? And yup – they taste just as good as they look.  Maybe better. I broke all of the July-in-Kansas rules today and turned my oven on.  Yes, I turned my oven on even though it was exactly 900 degrees outside today.  And with the heat-index, it felt like 950 degrees.  But I just had to make these…

  • Peppermint Bark Cheesecake

Let’s talk about pet peeves, shall we?  Specifically, let’s talk about MY pet peeves. The list is short.  Okay, the list is kind of short.

  • Pumpkin Ice Cream

So, I have to admit that as I write this tonight, I’m wearing two pairs of socks, a gigantic sweater and I’m sitting under a blanket drinking a huge mug of extra-hot coffee.  It’s definitely not ice cream weather right now. Isn’t it funny how the first cold night of the season brings out the cold-drama?  I’m pretty sure that 42 degrees in mid-January is going to feel like a heat wave, but tonight it’s awful.  And I want nothing to do with ice cream…

  • Jalapeno Cheddar Cornbread

Last Sunday, while my family was gathered at my parent’s house for our weekly Sunday dinner, I asked my Dad if he had any tomatoes left in the garden.  He said he’d check, and then disappeared for a while.  He came back with a handful of tomatoes and a couple of GROCERY SACKS FULL of jalapenos.  Not being one to ever turn down garden-fresh produce, I happily took a sack of them home.  I had absolutely no idea what I was going to do with…

  • Champagne Brunch with KORBEL

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of KORBEL California Champagne for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine. Last week I hosted a small brunch for some friends who were passing through town for the holidays.  Nothing big, but I wanted to have a few dishes for them to nibble on and some delish champagne cocktails to go with. I kept it simple with a fruit tray, a few pastries from a local bakery and then added in a couple of my…

  • Cinnamon Swirl Bread

There are few things more rewarding in the kitchen than a successfully made bread recipe.  Whether it’s your favorite pizza dough, cinnamon rolls, a buttery dinner roll or just a loaf of sandwich bread, there’s something about fresh bread that makes you feel like a rock star in the kitchen.  I don’t know how many times I’ve made bread (it’s a lot) but even so, every time the yeast starts to do its thing, I do a little happy dance. The thing about bread, though,…

  • Valentine Love Letter Cupcakes

Wizard of Oz.  The Grinch Stole Christmas.  Wizard of Oz.  The Grinch Stole Christmas.  WIZARD OF OZ WIZARD OF OZ WIZARD OF OZ. My three year old is on a kick. She only wants to watch WIZARD OF OZ and THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS.

  • Throwback Thursday: One Hour Maple Pecan Cinnamon Rolls

Hi everyone!  On Thursdays, I will be sharing some of my favorites from the archives of Lemon Sugar.  These are still my very favorite cinnamon rolls, ever and are one of my most-pinned recipes!  Wouldn’t these be great on a lazy daylight-saving morning? Enjoy! ♥ This is officially the third time I’ve used my One Hour Cinnamon Roll Dough on the blog.  There was the original, the Cherry Sweet Rolls, and now these. I think these win. These are Maple Pecan Cinnamon Rolls, and they’re fabulous. Oh…

  • Banana Bread Bars with Brown Butter Frosting

First of all, I have to apologize for these, because I know they aren’t pretty.  They’re very beige, kind of flat, the frosting has funky spatula-lines in it, but oh holy mother cow, these are so fantastically amazing that you have to make them right now.  Like, RIGHT. NOW. Seriously, go.

  • Strawberry Fudge Cupcakes

Happy Valentines Day!  This is just a quick update to post one of the goodies I sent with my husband to work today.  I made the Fauxstess Cupcakes again, and some Red Velvet Whoopee Pies (which I’ll post next time I make them, I didn’t get any pictures) but these were a creation of mine that I felt deserving of a blog post.  So, here we go! These are a fudgy chocolate cake, filled with a silky strawberry filling and topped with a basic cream…
