• Champagne Cupcakes

There’s something wrong with this picture.  Right now, I’m hanging out in my living room while my kids are napping.  For some reason, the movie Twister is playing on my television.  I’m wearing my oldest, most comfortable yoga pants and my hair is in a ponytail.  There’s a basket of freshly laundered kitchen towels staring at me, begging to be folded before they become a wrinkly mess. And I’m writing about champagne cupcakes.  Such is my life, I suppose. Here’s the thing, though.  These look fancy,…

  • Pumpkin Ice Cream

So, I have to admit that as I write this tonight, I’m wearing two pairs of socks, a gigantic sweater and I’m sitting under a blanket drinking a huge mug of extra-hot coffee.  It’s definitely not ice cream weather right now. Isn’t it funny how the first cold night of the season brings out the cold-drama?  I’m pretty sure that 42 degrees in mid-January is going to feel like a heat wave, but tonight it’s awful.  And I want nothing to do with ice cream…

  • No-Crack Cheesecake

Best cheesecake ever.  It doesn’t crack.  It’s crumbly but not dry.  It has a THICK, buttery graham cracker crust. It’s the best. The end. Seriously. So. good. I don’t have a lot of words about this.  I’ve made cheesecake a number of times, but I’ve never shared my go-to recipe with you all, which frankly seems like a crime against humanity.  Or against lemon-sugarers, at least.

  • Funfetti Scotcharoos

I honestly can’t remember the first time I had scotcharoos.  I know it was at least a decade ago.  My mother-in-law sent them home with my husband and I’m pretty sure I ate the entire box of them before my husband even realized what was going on.  They’re yumzos. Scotcharoos seem to be a pretty common Midwestern potluck/picnic/party food.  I’ve had them prepared a gazillion different ways, cut into different shapes, sizes, some with too much chocolate, some with not enough, etc. etc.  Of course, everyone’s…

  • Kumquat-Orange Cardamom Bars

Hi everyone!  Once again, I’m super-lucky to have a fantastic guest poster grace the pages of Lemon Sugar!  Everyone, meet  Samantha from The Little Ferraro Kitchen.  I’ve been following along with Samantha’s blog for quite a few months now.  I love to watch her posts on Instagram, because she never EVER fails to make me hungry!  Her recently revamped website is bright and fun to read, so I suggest you head right on over there and spend some time getting to know her!  While you are…

  • Pumpkin Donuts with Maple Buttermilk Glaze

It seems like the minute the calendar turns from August to September I start craving fall flavors like pumpkin, apple, maple and sweet potato.  And since before we know it there will be snow on the ground and pumpkin will be replaced with peppermint, I feel like it’s my duty to cram as many of these flavors into September and October as possible.  About a year ago I found a recipe for pumpkin donuts but never got around to making them.  I was not going…

  • Pina Colada Poke Cake

Before we jump into this Pina Colada Poke Cake, I just want to take a quick second to say Happy Memorial Day!  I hope you’ve all had a lovely long weekend full of family and friends.  And while I love that Memorial day signifies the first weekend of summer for many of us, the true meaning of the day isn’t lost on me, and my thoughts are will all of you who have lost a loved one while serving our country. My weekend was spent…

  • A Princess Party

Two of my favorite little princesses just turned three years old.  My niece, Ruby Jane and my youngest daughter, Mia Kate, were born just 17 hours apart and have grown to be best buds.  Well, usually.  They get along when sharing isn’t involved.  But that’s just a phase, right? When my sister and I asked the girls what kind of party they wanted, they barely skipped a beat before they decided it should be a princess party.  And who are we to argue?  This meant…

  • Firecrackers & Football Cookies

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #ScoreMoreFans#CollectiveBias Can you believe the big February football game is almost here again?  I mostly can’t believe it because January just flew by – which is really ok because as you know, I’m not a winter kind of girl – I’m counting down the seconds until warm weather. I really shouldn’t complain about this time of year though, because it’s actually pretty fun.  With all of the football…

  • Cookie Dough Brownies

Right now, I’m sitting in the lobby of my daughter’s gymnastics studio, waiting for her to finish up.  In my flurry to get her fed, dressed and out the door after school, I didn’t have time to eat dinner myself.  On top of that, I’m writing a blog post about cookie dough brownies.  This is pure torture.   I’m really wishing I would have packed myself a little brownie goodie bag.   I feel like I’ve been making a lot of cakes (and cupcakes) lately,…

  • A Fairy Party

Ready for a photo-heavy post?  ‘Cause that’s what you’re gonna get.  It’s Fairy Party time! Last weekend, my daughter Mia turned six years old.  For those of you who have been Lemon Sugar readers for a while, you know that my daughter and my niece were born just 17 hours apart, so my sister and I always combine their family party.  I look forward to planning this party every year, and we’ve had some fun themes in years past.  This year we went with a fairy-inspired…

  • Chocolate Macarons with Espresso Ganache Filling

Welcome to my most intimidating moment in the kitchen, the macaron.  I’ve been reading about these little puppies forever in foodie-land, and was SO discouraged by the directions that I put it off.  But, you know what?  They aren’t that hard.  In fact, I’d go so far as to say they’re pretty darn easy – you just have to follow the directions.  I would recommend a digital scale for these to measure the ingredients, although I just saw someone make them on the Food Network that…
