Baby Shower Cupcakes

I’m making cupcakes tomorrow for my dear sister-in-law, who’s hosting a baby shower on Friday night.  I still haven’t decided what I want to make yet, so tonight I thought I’d play around with some fondant and try to get some good ideas.  Instead, I came up with these.
I also discovered that fondant and I don’t play well together.  I think I’m going to need a lot more practice before I am good enough to make anything fancy.  Plus, I totally hate the taste of fondant so I’m not really all that motivated to figure it out.  It just makes me mad that I can’t seem to master the yucky-putty.  It’s kind of like Royal Icing.  It’s gorgeous, but it’s not yummy.  Some day, I suppose.

These are just my go-to chocolate cupcakes with chocolate buttercream frosting, which I used to adhere the fondant.  I bought the fondant this time because I just wanted to play with it and get a feel for it before I invested the time into making my own.

So, while these entertained me for the evening, I’m not particularly happy with them.  They’re kind of fun, but certainly not what I was hoping for.  I’ve decided to go with a filled cupcake of some sort for the baby shower, which is definitely more up my alley.

Enjoy!
